Festivities!

Our Christmas celebrations were not exactly what we were expecting... the "Blizzard of 2009" forced several changes to be made to our plans. Even though it wasn't what we (and by we I mean I) were planning, we still had a wonderful holiday!

The bad weather settled in on Christmas Eve afternoon/evening so we didn't make it to my grandma's to have dinner with family. My aunt and uncle were in town from Alabama and my cousins were in town from South Carolina and I am so so so disappointed we didn't end up getting to see them! The snow was literally piled high and the wind was blowing drifts up against our house- it was the most snow Kenny and I have ever seen! Since we were snowed in we decided to let Beckett open up his first gift of Christmas. This is a tradition we're going to start of opening up pj's on Christmas Eve!

Beckett takes the "all in" approach to unwrapping...
Christmas PJ's!!
After that, Kenny decided to make a fire. It was getting late, and Santa was coming, so we decided on a very small one :) Beckett was very interested in the fire, but I was impressed that he never got too close.
After Beckett went to bed Santa came and stuffed the stockings and brought the big toys!
Christmas morning Beckett was up bright and early, as usual, and it didn't take him much time to start playing! Mimi gave him this slide, and he LOVES it!
Santa brought him this wagon, and when he wasn't sliding, he was sitting in the wagon.
Seriously, he really likes sitting in the wagon. Kenny's been giving him rides around the house since we can't take it outside yet!
Kenny also bought him his first baseball glove- very special!
More presents...
After all the gifts were open we got ready to head out into the snow, but not before Beckett learned how to climb up the slide... he has since learned to use the steps and go up the "correct/safe" way.
Sliding like a big boy!
This is our back yard... the dogs were having so much fun pouncing through the snow, although Sammie had to be careful not to get lost in it all! There were some places where Reggie sank down in snow as high as his back. Beckett has a cold so we haven't taken him out to play in the snow yet :(
We finally made it to Kenny's mom's house even though it was pretty tough to get out of the neighborhood. Kenny had to shovel a lot of snow that had drifted up on our driveway. We were very happy to make it and to spend time with family. Emi got a Barbie laptop and Beckett was so interested in shutting the top, and then pushing the button that makes it open. It was pretty funny!
Even though we still haven't gotten to see my mom (and that side of the family) we still made the most of our "snowed in" holiday! At the end of the day we were just happy to be together and to celebrate Christmas as a family.

  1. It looks like you guys had a great Christmas, despite the circumstances. Here at the Hester house we pretended to be snowed in... since both of our families were! :)
