Kenny and I decided to take a little trip, with Beckett, to Texas to visit some friends and family over the New Year holiday weekend. We were excited because we hadn't had a chance to meet the newest addition to the Childress Family- Savannah, and the OSU Cowboys were playing in the Cotton Bowl at the new Dallas Cowboy's Stadium (I think I was just as excited to see the stadium as I was to see the Pokes play) so those were two "must do's" on our agenda!
First things first, Beckett was in DESPERATE need of a hair cut and Kenny's mom was more than happy to help us out- Dom and Emi helped by keeping B distracted! It was so good to cross that off our list of "things to do" before we left!
On Thursday morning we left and headed south! It was wonderful to drive out of all the snow piled up everywhere! We stopped and saw my friend Lauren in Caddo. It was nice to stop and let Beckett stretch his legs, he's a pretty good car rider/sleeper but he has so much energy and can only stay buckled up for so long!After our stop and lunch we headed to Sherman, TX where we stayed our first night. We got out and about, but there's not much else to say about Sherman :) Beckett loved the hotel and luckily there weren't many people there when we checked in because he was running up and down the hallway! He also had a great time riding up to the room with the luggage.
Friday we woke up, as usual, at 6:30 thanks to our little alarm clock (although he is the cutest alarm clock, I do sometimes wish he had a "snooze" button). After breakfast, we headed to Grandview, TX to see some family! When we arrived at Corey and Laliah's we said hi for a few minutes and then went next door to Kevin and Susan's (Kenny's Aunt and Uncle) to say hi and let Beckett run around with their girls- Renee, Bailey, and Emma- and the animals- a goat, rooster and chickens, and a duck. It was so good to see Kevin and Susan and the girls! Bailey has claimed Kenny as "her friend" and was so excited to show "her friend" all her toys and animals. Meanwhile, Beckett loved chasing the duck and running around!
After some good play time, we headed back to Corey and Laliah's so that Beckett could play with his newest cousin, Savannah. She is such a happy baby! They were even able to watch Baby Einstein together- a true bonding experience! I think they will grow up being great friends!
It was nice to catch up with Corey and Laliah too. It always seems like we have to leave too soon!
On Saturday, it was game day!! We were so excited that OSU was selected for the Cotton Bowl because it was close enough that we could go and take Beckett to his first College Football game! The bonus was that it was in the new stadium in Arlington! We were a little worried about how Beckett would do, whether or not we'd be able to sit and watch the whole game, and our tickets were on the Ole Miss side, "hostile territory" :) Everything worked out PERFECTLY (except for the final score). The stadium is amazing!
From our seats we had a great view of "the sea of orange"! Beckett ended up sleeping (on my lap) through the whole first half, that was actually a good thing because when he woke up he was in a good mood. The Mississippi fans we were sitting with were some of the nicest people we've ever met! They were all playing with Beckett and making him smile when he was antsy. There was never a bad word said about the Cowboys and when we were leaving they were all telling us "good game". It was wonderful!
Our seats were on the first row of our section which was perfect because Beckett could play in front of Kenny and I and we didn't have to worry about him messing with the people in front of us :) He actually did very well and he didn't start getting fussy until the end of the 4th quarter (at which point we were ready to leave anyway :)) so we were very happy with our experience and we will be making more special trips like this one!!
Again with the amazing-ness of the stadium. I think the scale of everything was what impressed me the most. Everything was huge! There were also mezzanines where people would congregate and still have a great view of the field. We took advantage of that before the game so that Beckett could run around (he's not a fan of holding hands but learned to live with it) and Kenny and I took turns eating and we could still watch warm ups and pre game festivities.
We had such a great time on this mini trip and while we were sad to leave TX and "vacation mode" we were so happy to get home! Luckily, we still have one more day before the holiday weekend ends to catch up on laundry and rest!
